Sorry!

I’m soooo sorry that i have not posted in such a long time. I really want to keep this site running but I will definitely have to take a break ;) . See you again soon!

Sushi, anyone?

myspace is one of the best inventions ever. Right after the hamburger, unless you are a vegetarian. You can see what you’re friends are up to, where your favorite bands are playing and find great new artists.
I already introduced Tom Rosenthal to you a couple of months ago and today I want to present…..drum roll…Keyboard Cathy, an unsigned artist from New Jersey. Her EP Sushi Lover (2007) features 7 songs with titles such as “So long and thanks for all the fish”, which is a reference to one of my favorite books, The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy (Douglas Adams). Writing this makes me realise that i have absolutely clueless about Englisch punctuation. Anyway, make sure you check out Cathy’s myspace profile! Her piano pop is certainly one-of-a-kind. I am so not good at describing music. Just listen to it. xoxo Ally

I am soooo sorry! I totally forgot to update this blog. I was so busy buying christmas presents and putting everything on my new laptop that I missed “listing time” ;) . Frankly, I am glad that I didn’t have to make up hundreds of stupid rankings. I am just going to say that I loved Cassadaga unlike most of the critics. Anyway, I’d love to put some cool mp3 files online right now but my webspace isn’t working. That sucks. I hope that they will fix it some time soon…Hey, you know what? I have a sendspace account so I am just going to use that one for my upload. It’s not that comfortable but I hope you can forgive me ;) .

Well, it’s Kate Nash’s awesome version of the Cold War Kids song “Hang Me Up To Dry”. I really really love it. I hope you do too…There you go:

btw: Happy “New” Year!

Is it just me?

I absolutely love the new Kylie Minogue song “2 Hearts”…It’s just a cool track and it makes me want to hit the dance-floor. Actually, it reminds me of Feist. Maybe it’s just the video. Or me. Anyway, I also listened to her album “X”. I have to say, it’s very britney-ish. Not for me. “2 Hearts” is great nonetheless. I don’t want to get in trouble with any major record label though, so I won’t put the mp3 file online. But I also like the video and you should check it out!

It doesn’t matter if you like the song or not but Kylie is admirable. Making such a dance-floor record after everything she’s been through. Forget Take That, forget the Spice Girls. That’s the ultimate Comeback of 2007!

Nearly everyone danced and sang along to Nelly Furtado’s Maneater last year. Me too. Then it got annoying. Nelly released “Promiscuous” and probably the whole rest of her album ”Loose” plus some collaborations with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. And she got even more annoying. Now, Tom Rosenthal, a lovely British singer/songwriter, made a very unique version of the song. “Nelly The Maneater” imagines Nelly Furtado as a real maneater. However, it’s just great and this guy certainly deserves your attention. Check out his myspace profile for further information and for the download of the song! Hope you like it…Ally

Edit: Unfortunately, he removed the file from his profile, even after I wrote this entry about it…Anyway, he’s got some other good stuff on his profile, you should check it out either way.

I know I’m late but now that I’m through with all my written tests I can finally tell you about the concert.
Well, as you might know, Rufus Wainwright is anything but a minimalist. So the venue was a big theatre and I managed to smuggle my camera past the security…My seat was in the 12th row so the pictures I took are not that great…But after the break (yeah, there was a break!!!) my new acquaintance Sina, who was seated in the first row took care of the photos. However, Rufus was in a good mood and was really talkative. He started with “Release The Stars” which is also the name of his album (if you haven’t heard of it yet) and…well, the directory of the night. He played all of the songs from the new album, mixed up with some old stuff. A really nice setlist…Anyway, let’s start with the pictures:

His performance was just lovely…His voice was a little hoarse, cause “You gotta give it to Berlin, you know” but he was great nonetheless. He had to restart “Nobody’s Off The Hook”  but nobody cared…He was just too charming (he apologized a couple of times). As you can see on the slideshow, he changed his outfit a couple of times. Though this sounds like he’s the new Kylie Minogue it was fun. From the red/white suite (That matches with the American flag in the background) to the leather trousers and then to the bathrobe that hid the jacket and his pantyhose. What can I say, he’s unique! The only bad thing about the concert was the venue. A lot of old people with seasonal tickets (I guess they had such tickets…They didn’t look like they knew him!) stopped by to watch him and nobody sang along or put their hands up. However, why don’t you give the live version of “Rules And Regulations” a listen that I recorded with my camera?

The worst word to describe music was, is and is always going to be honest. But that’s just the perfect adjective for Kate Nash. She’s not Lily Allen and she’s not Jamie T’s female counterpart. It’s just Kate. Her daily-life stories could also be yours or mine. In fact, they are. However, audiobloggers around the globe love her unique voice and her British accent. But the tightrope walk between childishness and maturity is the most special thing about her debut“Made Of Bricks” (Fiction/Polydor/Universal). I can’t stop listening to it and I am definitely going to post an album review soon. If you want to find out more about Kate visit her myspace profile and you can listen to the song “Mouthwash” that I put online for you. Of course, the album is already available on iTunes or Amazon. So, that was my recommendation for you. xoxo Ally

What about the artwork?

I am a neat-freak when it comes to my iTunes library. I want every song to be tagged properly and I want the album artwork displayed on my iPod. But what if there is no cover? That’s one big problem for every neat-freak who is enjoying the new Radiohead. “In Rainbows” is a nice title and the album certainly deserves to have a cool, radioheady artwork. I made a screen-shot of the website and put it into my iTunes…Not the best album art because www.inrainbows.com probably is the ugliest site I have ever seen. Nonetheless, I want to show you how it looks like:

Well, NOW it’s all about the music. I’m going to give it another listen. xoxo

Edit: The offcial artwork can already be seen on the picture for the special disc-box and it’s also available in 200×200 px…so here you go:

Last year it was the Gulag Orkestar that kept us dreaming. Now, France is Zach Condon’s place-to-be. Tomorrow, Beirut’s new album “The Flying Club Cup” will be hitting the stores. If you haven’t heard any of the tracks yet, enjoy “A Sunday Smile” which can be downloaded on the the band’s website for free.

(In) Rainbows In The Dark

Well, this is almost too old to be tagged under “news” but who cares?! Radiohead are going to release a new album – the download will be available on October 10th. Yep, that’s right folks, next Wednesday! http://www.inrainbows.com/Store/Quickindex.html is the official website for the new record “In Rainbows” and the only place to pre-order either the digital download or the limited disc-box (40 pounds) that will be shipped on Dec. 3rd. Well, it wouldn’t be Radiohead without a little a special feature: YOU can decide how much you want to pay for the download. The minimum cost is 46 pence. I’m probably going to order it for a pound or so and then wait for the physical release of the album. Hope you are as excited as I am! Cheers, Ally
